Reading: The Creep

Where to start with this book….

Well, at the beginning there was a warning about sex and violence. Normally I just think ‘yeah, yeah’. But seriously there is loads and LOADS of sex and violence. Be warned. No really….

Overall I enjoyed this book, the story and characters were interesting, but just as I was warned there was possibly too much sex and violence. Mostly sex. And weird inappropriate sex at that. However, do not let this put you off reading the book, it is still a good read. I found the story kept me reading and wanting to find out more and I love the twist at the end of the story, I did not see that one coming!

On Amazon this book seems to divide people with the majority giving either a 5 star rating or a 1 star rating. It seems this book is like Marmite; you love it or you hate it with no middle ground. However, personally I would rate this book (and Marmite) in the middle ground as a 3/5.

I downloaded this book as a free read but this book is now £2.49 on Amazon. I would recommend it if it is free or reduced in the future.

Reading: Firefly Beach

What can I say except I LOVED this book!

It was amazing: great story, superbly written, loveable and relatable characters, entertaining and shocking!

The story follows the adventures of Beth LaMonte when she discovers a young girls diary from the 1970’s in her new home. As she reads the diary she starts the search for the now grown up girl from the diary and what she discovers is shocking (I won’t ruin the story for you!).

The novel pulls you in from the start and I ended up staying up well into the night reading it. The 226 page book was read in less than a week as I just could not put it down! I cannot praise this book enough, it is the best book I have read in a really long time.

The book is for sale in the Kindle Store for £1.93 and is definitely worth every penny. I am eagerly awaiting Meira’s future books!

Reading: Undead Winter Novella

I do love a good zombie book and this one definitely fit the bill. It is a short novella (52 pages) so I finished it in a couple of nights.

The novella follows the stories of 5 people during a zombie apocalypse. Their stories fit together well making a short but enjoyable read. The author is apparently turning the novella into a full novel due to its popularity and I would definitely consider buying it.

Undead Winter by T.M Williams (link)

The book was free when I downloaded it but it is now 77p on the Kindle Store. If Williams is writing a novel based on this novella it might pay to wait for the full version. However, if you want a quick enjoyable read this book definitely fits the bill.

Reading: Lillan’s Story

I have been putting off writing this review for over a month as I have been feeling totally uninspired by this book. It’s not that it was a terrible book but it just wasn’t great.

At first it was very hard to get in to and I nearly gave up as I found the ‘ye olde’ writing style annoying and sometimes unreadable but I would not let it beat me (I have to finish a book when I have started it! I don’t know if you are the same?). As the story developed the writing style did improve and I found Lillian to be a likeable character. However, the story just seemed to be missing something, I’m just not sure what? Additionally, I found it impossible to try to remember who all of the different people were and their names; I kept finding myself  having to back track to find who they were. As a few other reviewers have said, the way the story jumps around is also quite irritating. The ending was a disappointment, letting me feel like maybe I should have given up after the first few pages.

It was free when I downloaded it but it is now £2.56 in the Kindle Store. I would recommended it to try for free but not as a paid book. However, this is just my opinion and Lillians Story has a lot of really good reviews on Amazon so if you fancy it don’t let me put you off!

Reading: First 2 Zombie Novels!

The “Last Hope Book 1: Onslaught” by Drew Brown was the first zombie novel I have ever read.

At first I wasn’t sure about it, however, after the story finally got going I did really enjoy it and would consider buying the second book. I wont discuss the plot as I don’t want to ruin the story if you do decide to read it! I downloaded this book when it was free on Amazon but it is now £2.62. As it is not a very long book (290 pages) I’m not sure I would recommend it for this price.

The second zombie book I read is ‘The Sickness: Monte’s Story’ by Jeannie Rae. It was a short novel.

I really enjoyed this book and managed to read it in only a 2 evenings. It is still free on Amazon at the moment so I would definitely recommend you download it and try it. Even if you don’t like it, you haven’t lost anything as it was free! It follows the main character Monte, a teenage girl, as she tries to escape the zombie apocalypse. I wont say any more as I don’t want to ruin the story! Overall, I am glad I read these two novels as my first zombie books and I will definitely be downloading a few more zombie books!

Have you read either of these books? Or another zombie book? What did you think?

Reading: Jocelyn’s Journal

I finished reading Jocelyn’s Journal by K.D. Rawden this week.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The story was interesting and the main character Melanie was relatable. However, it did have a few annoying grammatical and spelling mistakes (e.g. waste instead of waist). I downloaded it when it was a free download but after going on Amazon to check the information I found that it is now £1.94. Personally I would recommend as a free read but not for nearly £2.

I LOVE to read!

Since my childhood I have loved reading. I was always one of those quirky kids with loads of books. Well I guess I still am just older! Haha.

I got a Kindle for my Birthday last year and wasn’t sure I would like reading on a screen and not on paper but honestly, it is AMAZING!

I recently finished reading ‘The hundred year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared’ by Jonas Jonasson. Yes the name is kind of silly but it was a really good book. It was about the hundred year old Swedish man called Allan, and his interesting life story. It has some very funny sections and links many famous people and events during his lifetime very cleverly. At only 20p it is a bargain! I highly recommend it.

Yesterday I finished the ‘Turtle Boy’ book by Kealan Partick Burke. It only took me 2 nights to read as it is a short novella, plus it kept me gripped the whole way through! It was a free read on Amazon and I really enjoyed it. I won’t spoil the story but seriously, it’s free: download it! I’m thinking of downloading the next in the series.

Image.ashxI’m looking for another book to start now. What are you currently reading?

In other news, my Mollie Makes and Cloth magazines came in the post.

I decided to try Cloth magazine as it looked good and they have a subscription offer of 3 magazines for £5 (click here for a link). So after having a quick look through I think it is definitely worth the 3 issues for £5 but I don’t think I will keep up my subscription after the offer ends. Here are my favourite projects:

Faux Fur Stole

Customising tights

iPad satchel case

Have you brought or read this magazine before? What did you think?

When Mollies Makes comes through I always get excited and this issue was not a disappointment.
