Easy & Delicious Macaroni Cheese

This recipe uses the cheese sauce from this post. Just a nice quick and easy macaroni cheese that is great for warming you up with all of this cold weather.

Here’s what it looks like when finished:

Here’s what you will need:
– Milk (any kind)
– Flour (plain)
– Butter or Margarine
– Cheese (any kind)
– Black Pepper (for flavouring)
– Macaroni

Firstly, a reminder on making the cheese sauce.

Add the butter to the pan and warm it slowly until it is completely melted.

Take off the heat and add a scoop of flour.

DSC06203Mix the flour in to make a thick paste (add more flour if needed).

DSC06206Next add a small amount of milk. Mix with a whisk and not a normal spoon or it will go lumpy!

DSC06207Put the pan back onto the heat but keep it low. Add small amounts of milk at a time to make sure it does not go lumpy and do not stop stirring!

Add milk Β to the mixture until you have the required amount of sauce.

Keep stirring and turn up the heat until the mixture starts boiling.

DSC06222Turn the heat the low again and add the cheese.

Stir in the cheese until it is fully melted. You can always taste the sauce now to see if you would like to add more cheese to make it taste creamier.

Add black pepper for flavour. I add quite a lot as I like the taste but if you don’t like pepper you can skip this step or add a different spice/flavouring.

Mix the pepper in fully.

Now the sauce is complete you will need to boil the macaroni in water to cook them.

Cook the macaroni until it is soft. Strain the water out and add the macaroni to the cheese sauce.

Mix the sauce in thoroughly and divide into bowls.

It is delicious served like this or add a layer of cheese for a cheesy topping and grill.

  1. I love a good macaroni cheese. So easy for nights when I can’t be bothered. I usually add some fried bacon pieces, parsley and garlic to my sauce as well, then a good dollop of sweet chili on top when I eat it.

  2. Actually Mac and cheese is not something we do in France, much. Probably because we don’t use cheddar. Usually, when putting together pasta and grated emmenthal we will eat it with some ham. No fancy cheese sauce, just plain and simple grated cheese and a slice of ham πŸ™‚

  3. Mmmm, that looks tasty! Your bowls are perfect for this recipe…able to melt cheesy goodness over everything. I make mine from a box…from scratch seems so time consuming and intimidating. This tutorial makes it look so easy!

  4. I so love Mac n cheese!~ I normally eat it two ways: 1. from Mom, and 2. a microwaveable dish bought from a convenience store haha!

  5. Yummy! A favourite around the world πŸ™‚ Sometimes for a burst of flavour I’ll add chives and chopped bacon to my mac ‘n cheese πŸ™‚

  6. Macaroni cheese is the ultimate comfort food and so easy and relatively quick to do! I make mine the same minus the pepper but I may try it next time πŸ™‚

  7. This looks incredible, never liked the thought of Mac and Cheese before, always makes me think of a sloppy yellow mess, but I will definitely be giving this a try (this looks FAR from) – And it’s student friendly, wahoo! πŸ™‚ love your blog as well, some very good money saving tips too which I love! πŸ˜‰ xxxx
